Corinne Ohlsen Randazzo may have earned her degree from UL Lafayette more than 50 years ago, but she’s never neglected her connection to her alma mater

In 1954, Randazzo left with a degree in elementary education from SLI in her hands. She later went on to earn a master’s degree in library science, another master’s in elementary principalship and a specialist degree in media and technology.

For all this, she credits UL Lafayette for providing a strong educational foundation.

“I was afforded one of the best foundations for my career in education from SLI,” said Randazzo. “The college was small, teachers knew you by first name, they were interested in your needs and were very caring. I had no trouble in grad school.”

Randazzo also had no trouble keeping up with the Alumni Association. She is active with the Red Jackets Alumni Chapter, serving as secretary for the group, and also is involved with the SLI 50+ Chapter.

“I want to be a role model for others to become active,” she explained. “I want to inspire others to give back to the college/university who afforded us such a great education.”

Since 1959, she has been living in Vidalia, La., her hometown. She retired from the Natchez-AdamsPublicSchool District after 36 years of service as librarian. Under her supervision, the Natchez school library program was the first to computerize card catalogs in Mississippi. During her late-husband’s tenure as mayor, Randazzo compiled a photographic history of Vidalia. She’s now working on a second history of the town during the 1930s.

Her accomplishments during her college career at SLI include being elected president of the Women’s Student Government Association and representing the university at two national conventions. Randazzo also served as president and vice president of Phi Delta Epsilon Sorority and president of the Red Jackets.
