Tim Guidry

Tim Guidry first saw the UL Lafayette Alumni Association in action when he served on its Homecoming Committee as a student representative in 1992.
He has been an active Association volunteer ever since.
There have been many rewards along the way, such as the satisfaction of helping the university. But one of the most valuable benefits has been the friendships he has made.
“Many of the friends I’ve had for the past 10 years are people I met through either the Alumni Association’s Homecoming Committee or as a student on the Union Program Council,” Guidry said.
The depth of those relationships was evident when his mother died unexpectedly about 10 months ago. “On the Monday of her funeral, every one of my friends took off from work to attend the funeral,” he recalled.
Much of Guidry’s volunteer effort has focused on Homecoming, since college football is his favorite sport. He has served as chairman of the Association’s Homecoming Committee.
For the past 15 years, Guidry has tailgated with the same group of friends, which continues to grow as some of its members marry and have children. “We all get together – with all the spouses and all the kids – every home game and have a blast. We even make most of the away games that are within driving distance.”
He has also served on the Association’s Alumni Council and assisted with the annual Spring Gala.
Guidry, who holds a bachelor’s degree in finance, is a controller at Teche Electric Supply LLC. He’s said he’s proud that his employer supports the university, too.
He encourages other alums to get involved with Alumni Association activities, noting that it doesn’t require a huge commitment of time. “One hour every two weeks is plenty. That’s really all it takes.”
